Heya đź‘‹
I'm Juliet
As a no-nonsense personal advisor, marriage and family therapist, and mom to 13 amazing kids, I've got a wealth of experience. I've worked over a decade in international adoption and orphan care, and now I'm here to help you tackle life's challenges. My passion lies in offering practical advice and support to teens and young adults, all in real-time via texting and mini "chats". And parents, I've got you covered too. If you're in need of guidance backed by solid education and a ton of life experience, you're in the right place.
Background
Raised in the heart of northern MN and now soaking up the sun in San Diego, my life's been an exciting journey, full of adventure, heart, and a sprinkle of sass. My childhood spent sailing Lake Superior taught me how to navigate the uncharted waters of life.
My path has taken some unexpected turns, leading me to West Africa where I poured my heart into international orphan care, changing the lives of countless kids. This journey led me to international adoption, where I welcomed 8 amazing kids from Sierra Leone and Ethiopia into my bustling family of 5 bio kids.
I've spent over 30 years with my high school sweetheart, Dave (also known as "Hubs"). Together, we've crafted a love story that's weathered continents, challenges, and a whole lot of life. This journey has shaped my unique approach to personal advising, where I offer immediate, real-deal support through text, phone chats, video calls, and in-person meetings. I blend hard data with relatable stories, making my approach as refreshing as it is effective.
My journey is proof that strength comes from embracing the chaos, connecting with others, and boldly navigating all that life throws at you. As a personal advisor, I've found my purpose helping individuals who may not fit the clinical definition of needing mental health care, but who still need a guiding hand to navigate life's challenges. If you're looking for a seasoned ally to weather life's storms or a guide to help you navigate uncharted waters, I'm your person.
Education
My journey into the counseling world began with a healthy dose of curiosity and a burning passion for understanding the human psyche. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Minnesota, where I dove headfirst into the complexities of the human mind. Graduating at the top of my class, I set a high bar for myself and never looked back.
Riding that momentum, I pursued my Masters of Counseling from National University. Once again, I found myself leading the pack, proving my commitment to my studies and showcasing my grasp on the intricacies of human behavior. These academic achievements didn't just pad my resume, they laid the foundation for my career as a straight-shooting marriage and family therapist, orphan care advocate, and personal advisor.
But let's be real, life doesn't always stick to the textbooks. Alongside my formal education, I've gained a wealth of knowledge from the school of life. From raising 13 kids, navigating the international adoption process, to working with orphans in West Africa, I've earned a PhD in real-world experiences. These experiences have taught me lessons no classroom could and they inform every piece of advice I give.
My academic and life experiences reflect my dedication to guiding others through life's maze. With a deep understanding of psychology, counseling, and a whole lot of real-life wisdom, I bring a ton of knowledge to my role as a personal advisor. You can count on each interaction being rooted in expertise, compassion, and a healthy dose of reality.
Experience
Passionate about making a difference, my journey led me to Sierra Leone, where I worked with Ebola orphans, medically fragile children, and those who've experienced trauma. Collaborating with the government, I developed innovative solutions for orphan care, from in-country housing initiatives to international adoption and foster care options.
My commitment to strengthening relationships and families is evident in my professional and personal life. With nearly 3000 hours of clinical experience in California, I've worked with diverse groups including teens, young adults, individuals within the LGBTQ+ community, and children in foster care.
But my expertise isn't just professional—it's deeply personal. Raising 13 children in a multiethnic family has given me firsthand experience of the joys and complexities that come with blending backgrounds and experiences. For 30 years, my high school sweetheart, Dave, and I have navigated the ever-changing landscape of marriage and relationships. Our enduring partnership stands as a testament to my ability to weather storms and celebrate victories.
Living and working in Sierra Leone provided a unique global perspective, enhancing my understanding of the world and the resilience of the human spirit. My personal and professional experiences combine to create a tapestry of wisdom, compassion, and insight that I bring to my role as a personal advisor.
